PASB > Mining Site

Exploration . Prospecting . Exploration

PASB had undertaken a detailed pilot prospecting study for mining exploration of potential gold deposit together with its appointed strategic partners’ GEO SOLUTION RESOURCES – Malaysia leading geological and mining consultant over a site in FELDA KECHAU 03 BLOK 01,02,04,05,06,16,17,18 & 19 MUKIM KECHAU, DAERAH LIPIS, PAHANG DARUL MAKMUR covering an area of 8 square kilometers (794.03 He).

The study involved the fieldwork of a walkover scanline traversing covering river and all-terrain of the area, inspecting the indicator, pathfinder, or evidence of mineralization trend. From this study, it is reported that the area shows two types of high concentrated gold deposits: placer gold which was at the alluvial plain as a secondary deposit at low laying areas, and primary gold deposit intact within the hilly part of the area.

Geology and Exploration of Kechau

The study area located on Triassic age ( ̴242ma) of the geology map of peninsular Malaysia. Triassic age, lithologically there are interbedded sandstone, siltstone, and shale; widespread volcanic, mainly tuffs of rhyolitic to dacitic composition in Central Peninsular. Chegar Perah-Merapoh area where had been originally mapped by Richardson (1950). The lithological sequence consists of limestone facies from Lower to Middle Permian ( ̴290 Ma) interbedded with argillaceous units and towards the top is found the volcanics, termed the Pahang Volcanic Series.

The sequence was assigned a Permian-Triassic age ( ̴254 Ma). Tin (1965) later named the Permo-Triassic calcareous sequence the Gua Musang formation. The sequence was later intruded by granitic intrusive forming the Bukit Damar and Bukit Tujuh Bodies.

Kechau is located at the east of the Bukit Damar, overlain on top of the Kaling Formation. The lithologic sequence of the study area predominantly consists of arenaceous sequence with minor conglomerate, shale, and rhyolitic tuff. From the general geological map, the age of the study area is Late Triassic and closely associated with Semantan Formation. The sedimentary sequence generally is east dipping.

Geology and Mineralization

Geology and mineralization are important criteria to identify the potential of gold deposits. The information and understanding of these items can be used to planning and construct later progress for the mining development. A study of literature covering the geology of the Central Belt goldfield shows the important role of hydrothermal fluids in the formation of gold deposits (Scrivenor, 1911, 1928, 1931; Richardson, 1939, 1950; Alexander, 1949; Proctor, 1972; Lee et al., 1982, 1986; Yeap, 1993).

The regional geochemical survey for gold carried out by the Mineral and Geosciences Department of Malaysia over the Central Belt in North Pahang and South Kelantan has defined a 20-km wide, north-south trending gold mineralization in the Raub-Kuala Medang-Lipis-Merapoh area. Several mines being worked extensively were alluvial deposits developed on vein stockworks in altered, brecciated, and sheared intrusive or adjacent country rocks. The attraction lies in the good possibilities of the existence of sizeable tonnage of low-grade gold deposits.
